Not-So-Basic Black Cover-Up

I vacationed in Grand Cayman for years with my family growing up, and a couple of times with Trevor before kids, but this was our first time there as our little own family. In the prior visits my trip prep no doubt was about finding a great swimsuit or two for myself. This year it was mostly about getting the kids outfitted with warm weather attire, swim gear, sunscreen etc. Based on my heightened awareness about sun exposure coupled with a prediction that I would be doing far less lounging on the beach this time around (I was right), the goal for myself was to find a great cover-up. So many options that I found incorporated lace into the design, which doesn’t really match my style; or  were a stark white color, which doesn’t really match my lifestyle (there is a high likelihood that I spilled a bit of that coffee I’m holding on this very outfit). I liked that this had pants and wasn’t too sheer, but still had a beachy vibe with the neckline and the draped t-back.

Reality Check. I do really like this cover-up, but to be honest I still grabbed the shorter, more casual t-shirt type cover-ups on a far more frequent basis when on the trip. I had forgotten how HOT the sun is in Cayman – pants during the day (except for perhaps a early trip for coffee) are just not practical.

    I totally see your point for Caymans, but that looks like a great option for early summer/early fall pontoon rides! anything to stay away from the mosquitoes!

      Funny, Katie – I actually had drafted something exactly to that point (how I hoped it would get more use on the pontoon this summer!) and ended up deleting it. You read my mind! (;
