Cozy Campfire

With the fire pit put away for the fall and winter seasons, we thought we would take the opportunity to have a good old fashioned campfire with the kids. They don’t get to experience the fires we have during the summer, as by the time it’s cool and dark enough, they are tucked in bed. Turns out Ella missed this one as well, as she likes to nap for a good 4 to 5 hours at the cabin (she has caught on early that there is no better place to sleep than at the lake). That worked out just fine, though, as it was a really special time for Trevor and me to spend with Taylor – building his first fire, roasting his first hot dogs, and toasting marshmallows for mom. It’s tough when you have two kiddos to give quality attention to just one (especially both parents at once), so this was an unexpected, fun treat. Although I did feel guilty during the marshmallow part…that little girl looooves marshmallows.

Halloween – Decoration, Drinks & Disney

For the past few years we’ve focused on the kids’ costumes for Halloween, and not much else. We hit a couple of houses, swing back home for an early bedtime, and set out a bowl of candy for kids to help themselves. When Taylor announced a few weeks ago that he didn’t want to go trick-or-treating, but instead wanted to stay at home and hand out candy, I thought I would take the opportunity to do up a fun treat table for the kids and adults in the neighborhood.

Nelson Farm

What’s a fall season and Halloween holiday without a trip to a pumpkin patch? ** We got out of our sweatpants (because even sans blog, a pumpkin patch visit is a family photo gold mine) this past Sunday and headed to a nearby farm that offered pumpkins and then some. As you know from past posts, it takes a lot for the Olsons to get organized and go on a family outing. So when I was looking into options, I wanted to find something that hit on lots of cylinders. Although a roadside stand would actually suffice (all the kids really wanted was to pick out a pumpkin), I feel the need to try and tie in farm animals, fun and games, food and drink, a corn maze, you name it. There are a ton of options, to be sure, but I feel like we hit the jackpot with Nelson Farm.
