Black & Amber

I love wearing the combination of black and brown, especially if the latter leans towards amber. My mom knit me this chunky scarf last winter and it’s a go-to piece to add warmth to my winter attire (in terms of color and coziness). And, as I’ve mentioned in recent posts, I’ve decided to go for sturdier boots for the season, in an effort to make my footwear last longer than 4 months and to help my feet from becoming two ice blocks by the end of the day. I loved these Sorel boots when I spotted them – the color combo that always draws me in and so different and stylish, yet practical. Or are they? See Reality Check below.

Love the leather detail on the pockets of this shift.

Reality Check. I’m a little conflicted about these booties. Do the rubber sole and upper make them completely practical, or does the high heel (um, covered in a gold plate) make them completely impractical? The first time I wore these it was pretty slick outside, and I was feeling very prepared. I was basically wearing galoshes, after all. Trevor dropped me off in front of a restaurant, which happened to have a revolving door. I slipped and fell (not a catch yourself as you slip kind of fall – an all out, on my face kind of fall) as I entered into the individual chamber – or whatever you call that part a revolving door – you know what I mean. That’s not only difficult to do, but it’s quite obvious and a little noisy (I sort of bounced around a bit). So, while I love the style, the jury is still out on these 4-inch gold-heeled rubber with a leather sleeve modern day platform galoshes.

I love the boots! But revolving doors and I don’t get along even when I’m in flats. So I’d keep them for when I want a winter look, without the full winter elements.

I’m intrigued by how you don’t get along with revolving doors! But yes, these boots are lovely … and tricky. Another time, out of nowhere at a party I turned on one ankle and about fell over. I think the “rubber boots” impression must give me a false sense of security, and I forget I’m wearing 4 inch platforms. Or, I’m just getting clumsier. Entirely possible.
