Berry Banana Brulee

From a secular standpoint, this holiday weekend brings to mind sweet treats. Give your family something special in the morning, which doesn’t involve a Cadbury wrapper (although who doesn’t love a decadent Cadbury Creme Egg this time of year?) with these easy and delicious brulee-like breakfast muffins. Because dessert masked as a meal is never a bad thing. Recipe below.

I can attest that they are delicious, but they are not the prettiest dessert you’ll ever serve (the bananas, of course, brown quite a bit in the oven). That’s why this is such a good dessert – uh, I mean breakfast – to serve to your family rather than guests.

Recipe
Berry Banana Brulee

Ingredients

whole wheat English muffins, sliced in half
sliced bananas and berries (whole if using raspberries)
one small tub of plain or honey whipped cream cheese
1 teaspoon vanilla
brown sugar for topping

Directions

Mix the vanilla into the cream cheese
Toast the English muffins and spread with the cream cheese
Top with berries or bananas and a tablespoon of brown sugar
Place under the boiler and heat until the sugar is melted and bubbly
Watch carefully while broiling so muffins don’t burn
